Listening to Your Body with Jen Kenneally
As a singer and a dancer Jen Kenneally knows how important it is to listen to your body. As a massage therapist that is exactly what Jen does with her hands. Her energy and intention to help her clients achieve their full potential through massage therapy is palpable as she moves her hands sharing with me the work that brings her passion and joy.
“People often take pride that they are able to push through an injury. I know I did when I had the attitude of ‘The Show Must Go On!’ But in truth, that is nothing to be proud of.“ Jen suggests that when we listen to our bodies when they whisper to us and practice good self-care, our bodies won’t need to shout at us and shut down.
Jen is most excited when her clients have an “aha” moment during a massage therapy session. She loves educating her clients about their bodies and uses the analogies of Pinocchio where the knots in the string cause restriction in the limbs; or a suspension bridge seeing how the body as a whole needs to be in balance in order to be effective, to help her clients understand what leads to pain and dysfunction in their bodies. Moving her hands as she talks and her eyes lighting up with a sparkle she tells me how she feels like a detective to find the source of the pain and what she can do to bring about relief and change.
Jen is trained in CranioSacral Therapy, a multi-session protocol which is highly effective in treating migraine headaches, TMJ and to help restore balance and relief for pre and post-natal women. The touch is light and works to release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. The client remains clothed on the table and is face up for the entire treatment. Jen’s hands are trained to listen to your body encouraging your body to return to its natural state of balance and well being.
When you partner with Jen Kenneally as your massage therapist, you’ll be able to get in tune and get in step moving out of pain and dysfunction, feeling free to enjoy your life.
In addition to Jen’s office hours on Thursdays and Fridays at Spratt Muscular Therapies, Jen has her own practice, Bloom Massage Therapy, in Newton. Visit Jen's website at www.bloomboston.com
